About CTA: Welcome

The Creative Transformation Africa (CTA) is a licensed private company operating as a social enterprise in the laboratory business, with the primary aim of promoting Africa’s growth by producing nano-enabled Intellectual Property (IPs) and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The company’s primary focus is commercializing university research outputs in medicine and pharmacy, with an emphasis on vaccine development, therapeutics, and diagnostics/medical devices as products and services in the Africa Free Continental Trade Area (AfCFTA).

To achieve its objectives, CTA has partnered with Makerere University and Uganda Industrial Research Institute to establish a hybrid Triple Helix and Open Innovation Economic Model. This model aims to engage in high-level research and development (R&D) globally by partnering with academia and industry in both the global north and Africa, based on North-South, South-South, and Triangular cooperation protocols outlined in the SDG-Agenda 2030, AU-Agenda 2063, EAC Vision 2050, and Uganda Vision 2040.

CTA plans to establish an Advanced Biomedical Research Centre in Lira City to perform high-quality science-based R&D and produce nano-enabled market-ready IP-based SMEs for medical products for the market. They also plan to establish a medium-term cooperation program for human capital development to train researchers, engineers, and innovators for their hybrid triple helix and open innovation programs. CTA aims to leverage international and bilateral human capital development programs to establish their workforce for the CTA Biomedical Research Centre.

To support their programs, CTA plans to obtain blended financing, which includes technical assistance, grants, and private capital, through the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (of which CTA is a member), and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

CTA’s Advisory Board and Management, with their wealth of experience in scientific research and innovations, will support this noble cause and turn it into Africa’s best model of social and economic transformation. CTA’s directors and managers will also bring unique talents and resources that will enable the collective realization of these ambitious programs.

CTA acknowledges its partners in the hybrid Triple Helix and Open Innovation Economic Model, including the Management and staff of Makerere University and Uganda Industrial Institute, whose invaluable competencies and experience in science, engineering, medicine, research, and innovation will contribute to the transformation of Africa into a Knowledge-based economy.

Overall, CTA’s hybrid triple helix and open innovation model is an ambitious and innovative approach to contributing to Africa’s growth through the production of nano-enabled IPs and SMEs aligned to medicine and pharmacy. The establishment of the CTA Biomedical Laboratory Centre of Excellence, along with the proposed partnerships and cooperation programs, demonstrates a commitment to advancing science-based R&D in Africa and providing advanced science education and training for researchers, engineers, and innovators.
